Adeleke won by a close margin, securing 1569 votes while Ogunbiyi had 1562.​

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the emergence of Sen​ator​ Ademola ​Nurudeen Adeleke as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state.

The senator on Saturday defeated his closest challenger, Akin Ogunbiyi, to emerge the flagbearer of ​​the PDP in the September 22 governorship election.


​​Reacting to the victory, Atiku on Twitter congratulated Senator Adeleke. He also called on other aspirants to support him.

He wrote, “I congratulate Sen. Ademola Adeleke on his emergence as the governorship candidate of our great party, @OfficialPDPNig.

“I call on other aspirants to rally around him to ensure the victory of PDP in the Osun gubernatorial election in August.”
