One of the most important elements in almost every person’s life is their family. Families usually provide a solid background, an outline for the future and a backbone of support. Today, we want to talk about Yul Edochie and family to see how it might have influenced him and shaped him as a person, actor, husband and even politician.

Short Yul Edochie biography

Yul Chibuike Daniel Edochie was born on January 7, 1982 in Lekki, Lagos. As of writing this article, Yul Edochie age is 35. He was named after a famous Russian actor of the last century, Yul Brynner. Yul Edochie grew up as the youngest kid in a family of six kids. His father is the famous actor Pete Edochie.

Yul received a bachelor’s degree in Dramatic Arts from the University of Port Harcourt. After that, he went on to conquer Nollywood with his first movie titled The Exquires (2005), where he starred with Enebeli Elebuwa and Justus Esiri. However, Yul’s first big role was in Wind of Glory(2007) with his co-stars Desmond Elliot and Genevieve Nnaji.

Since then, he has starred in many Nollywood movies and won multiple awards for his achievements. Apart from that, the actor also opened his own acting school called Yul Edochie Academy. It is located in Lagos. The main goal of the academy is to bring up the future generations of Nollywood stars.

Interesting fact:

The actor is currently running for Governor of Anambra State from the Democratic Peoples Congress. He vows to make Anambra a better state to visit and live in, to create equal opportunities for indigenes of Anambra State and to generally improve the state in every way.

You can find Yul on Instagram (@yuledochie), where he shares photos and videos from his movie sets, images of his newest brand deals, as well as snippets of his gubernatorial campaign.

Now that you know a little bit more about Yul Edochie himself, let’s talk about his family.

Yul Edochie parents

It is no secret that Yul Edochie is one of the children of the legendary Pete Edochie. Pete was born on March 7, 1947 in Enugu. His acting career spans for almost 50 years, during which he has managed to become one of the most memorable and respected actors in Nollywood.

Pete Edochie has always been very reserved, as he rarely shared anything with the press. Thus, we do not know much about his wife and Yul Edochie mother, Josephine Edochie. All we know is that their marriage has lasted for almost as long as Pete’s career in the film industry.

Did you know?

At one point, there was a misunderstanding about who was actually Pete’s wife. Many mistook Rita Edochie, the wife of Pete’s brother, Tony, for being Pete’s wife. After finding out about this controversy, both Pete and Rita spoke up on the subject and clarified their relation to one another.

Pete has always regarded his wife Josephine with utmost respect. In several interviews, he admitted that she was the perfect wife for him. They have given their children all they could. Now, they can enjoy seeing their kids succeed and have the pleasure of spending time with their grandchildren.

What is interesting, though, is that Yul did not use the name of his father or his funds to find his place in the world. He has achieved everything that he has today only with the help of his talent and perseverance.

As you probably know, Yul has a relatively big family. With five siblings, it must have been a very interesting life growing up. However, little is known about four of these siblings. According to some sources, Yul’s three brothers and sister are not involved in the show business, which is why they have not yet appeared in the media.

Nevertheless, Yul Edochie's brother followed in their father’s footsteps and also became an actor. He is none other than Linc Edochie. He might not be as famous as his younger brother, but he still has some memorable movies in his resume, such as One LifeTears of Sacrifices and My Wicked Uncle.

Yul Edochie’s brother is currently in his 40s (precise date of birth is unknown). Apart from being an actor, he is also a writer, master of ceremony and director. Linc Edochie is a firm believer in God. Since 2010, he has been married to Amaka Edochie. And that is all that we know about him.

Yul Edochie wife and children

Yul's wife, May Aligwe-Edochie, and their children

As Yul came from a very big and loving family, it is only logical that he wanted to create the same for himself. It seems like he succeeded. At the moment, he is a proud husband and father of three.

Yul met his wife, May Aligwe, at the university he was attending all the way back in 1998. The two dated for a few years until 2004, when they finally decided to tie the knot. It might sound incredible, but the actor was only 22 years old at the time!

The actor also said that, despite being from a family of prominent actors, he had little to nothing to offer his future wife. However, May did not care about his wealth, but she helped him get on his feet instead and instilled confidence in him.

We do not know much about May Aligwe-Edochie, as her husband is not very keen on sharing her private information with the media. In one of the interviews, he stated that she is a businesswoman and a computer engineer, so she does not have to suffer from paparazzi obsession. Yul tries not to let the media sharks get too close to her. But she has her own Instagram account (@mayyuledochie), so give her a follow!

But here is the thing:

He talks about her very often, and it is obvious that he appreciates and loves her a lot. Yul admits that May is not bothered by the attention he gets from his female fans. She knows he is faithful only to her.

When it comes to their children, they also seem to be far from the spotlight. Yul’s eldest daughter Dani is 12 years old (born April 14, 2005), and she seems like a regular kid. We have been able to find out that her brothers' names are Karl and Kambi, but their ages are unknown. Probably, Yul thinks that they are too young to be featured in any news media outlets.

Yul Edochie family is large, beautiful, talented and inspirational. Everyone has love and respect for each other. We wish them all the best and we will be rooting for Yul Edochie in the upcoming elections. Good luck to him and God bless him.
